U.S. Bank and Elavon celebrate 30 years with Korean Air

September 07, 2023

U.S. Bank recently introduced new benefits to Korean Air SKYPASS Visa® program, pays tribute to longstanding co-brand credit card relationship

Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, Korean Air started in 1969 with only eight planes. The airline soon began a journey toward global expansion and today its customers can travel to 120 cities in 43 countries – including 13 cities in South Korea and destinations across the United States.

Korean Air will celebrate its 55-year anniversary next year, and in 2023 reached another milestone: a 30-year business relationship with U.S. Bank and Elavon.

“We began our relationship with Korean Air on the card acquiring side of the business in 1993, and we’ve worked closely together to deepen our relationship over the years,” said Steve Mattics, head of Retail Payment Solutions for U.S. Bank. “Longevity and commitment to serving customers with care is something we both have in common.”

More than 100 airlines worldwide count on U.S. Bank and Elavon for secure, reliable and innovative payments technology. As a trusted partner to Korean Air, the bank helps minimize payment acceptance costs.

“As a provider with global capabilities, we can transact in more than 100 currencies," said Jamie Walker, Elavon CEO. "This is an ideal solution for Korean Air and its international customer base.”

Korean Air and U.S. Bank recently introduced new benefits to the Korean Air SKYPASS Visa program, including a 5% Korean Air ticket discount for cardholders and a companion, as well as competitive bonus mile offers for new cardholders.

“The SKYPASS Visa program has created amazing value for Korean Air passengers, awarding more than 28 billion miles to cardholders since the U.S. Bank-Korean Air partnership started,” said Jin Ho Lee, senior vice president and head of Korean Air’s Americas Regional Headquarters. “The new benefits will help Korean Air cardholders utilize notable ticket discounts and accrue rewards faster than ever before.”

Korean Air is a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance, which means the Korean Air miles and elite status cardholders’ earnings can also be applied to other partners across the airline alliance.
